Last month I celebrated my 36th year in Phoenix. Wow … how time flies. When I moved here from Canada in 1977 to get my MBA at Arizona State University and then my CPA … I had no idea where my journey in life would take me. Luckily for me … I ended up becoming a senior executive for Fortune 500 companies … and between my salary, bonuses, and stock options, my wife, Sue, and I were able to buy enough rental real estate in Phoenix to allow me freedom from a JOB by 2003. Since leaving the corporate world and my JOB, I’ve learned how to...

With the large number of clients I speak to every month, it’s interesting to hear their view of how the recession has impacted their lives, especially in the Phoenix area. There’s no doubt in my mind that 99% of the general population has been pounded by the economy over the past 5 years. It’s not only the financial losses that almost everyone has suffered … even worse is the psychological and emotional wounds it’s created in so many people’s lives. Hope has been replaced by a feeling of doom … and there’s a...

It’s amazing to think that Labor Day is behind us and the summer is coming to an end. I hope it’s been a terrific one for you. It has been for me. Over this summer I was able to spend almost 2 weeks in Canada and another 3 weeks in Europe, and I saw many great places and met many successful people. I also had the chance to read a number of books that continue to add perspective and guidance to me in all areas of money, business, happiness and success. As I find new ideas and concepts that work … I incorporate them into my life and teach...

In Phoenix … by Memorial Day, we’re already hitting the 100’s on the thermometer and it just goes on and on and on from there. Fortunately … it’s a DRY heat … but still … HOT is HOT! So  … to escape the heat, I spent 2 weeks last month in Canada where I got to enjoy beautiful summer days in the 70’s.  And by the end of THIS week, I’ll be in Northern Europe for 2 more weeks with temperatures in the 60’s and 70’s. In Phoenix there are dozens of Bank on Yourself owners who can finance their own...

There’s no doubt about it. I love living in Arizona. I’ve been here since the summer of 1977 and moving to the Valley of the Sun has been one of the greatest decisions of my life. That being said … after 36 summers … I’ve reached the point in my life where getting out of town during the heat of summer is mandatory. So I’ll be heading up to my roots in Canada for 10 days to escape the desert heat and spend time with family and friends. I’ll continue to check my email and voice mail … so if you have any questions or want to get...

Way back in 1976, I graduated from Carleton University in Ottawa, Canada, with an Honors Commerce degree and a desire to retire young. To me, that meant not having to work anymore, enjoying life, traveling, and managing my investments, all by the time I was 50. I realized that without commanding the skills of selling, I’d never achieve that goal. It wasn’t going to happen in a job. So I went out and found the BEST SALES TRAINING ORGANIZATION IN THE WORLD at that time … XEROX! They had a patent on their “Plain paper” photocopying so...

As all of my close friends and clients will attest to … I am a prolific reader.  I don’t read fiction or novels … I read business and success books. In fact … I don’t actually read books … I study them. Repeatedly. I’ll read the same book and refer back to it frequently because it really is true that REPETITION IS THE MOTHER OF LEARNING. I consider any success I achieve to be a result of the programming I’ve received, or chosen to adopt. It’s also true for you. In the past year, I was introduced to the...

Can you believe it? Before you know it, June will be in the books and half of 2013 will be over. WHERE DOES THE TIME GO?? This has been a most amazing six months for me and I continue to learn and grow, and teach many of my clients and students in Phoenix to do the same. There’s no time to waste. You’re either moving ahead or you’re falling behind. There’s no middle ground. I’m looking forward to getting out of the Arizona heat with a trip up to Canada in July and a cruise to Northern Europe in August. I hope all...

One of the biggest challenges I see with many of my clients is that they have failed to COMMIT to managing their money properly, and creating investments that give them an income stream. In fact, most people go to work to earn enough money to pay the bills. What they need to be thinking is that they go to work to earn enough money to pay for their INVESTMENTS. Eventually their INVESTMENTS will earn them enough money so that they don’t have to go to work anymore. It starts with a COMMITMENT to focus a portion of your time...
